Narvik and the Artic Train

 Another great breakfast to start the day, although the pickled herring in curry may come back to haunt me.

We managed to get tickets on the Artic Railway yesterday thanks to Get Your Guide as previous attempts on various sites were unsuccessful - perhaps there were some last minute cancellations. 

Off out to check out how far it is to the Train station and yes Google maps it is only 5 minutes even in the snow. So to my knitters Barbara and Helene I have both your hats with me however Helene, yours is the choice for the day incase I get buried in a snow drift. Had a look around the cemetery for the WWII graves of German, English, French, and Polish soldiers. Neil as practical as ever commented that he would hate to dig the graves given the rock but then added they would've buried them in bomb craters. Actually this wasn't the said cemetery, it was on the other side of the railway track but still a nice wander.

We headed off on the Artic Train Journey a 2.5 hour there and back again trip up to the Swedish boarder. At the top the guide advised that it will be very windy and we joked about having Artic weather for an Artic Train journey - she was not joking, A lot of the trip was up the Fjord where much of what was depicted in the movie promoted in the previous blog, as well as a brief history of when Norway left the Swedish/Norwegian Union. Feeling slightly guilty about my Swedish Meatballs last night.

Ended the outing with a wander down town, a look in the red Cross shop, and a visit to the Narvik War museum. In short if you are going to 'help' a country out when they haven't asked for it you need to be prepared to stay! Watch the movie.

An Afternoon in Bergen - on the water

 Hello from the other side again, Given that Bergen would be a perfect place to own a boat we did the next best thing and borrowed one and went on a cruise around a fjord, then through a cutting into a lake. A lovely trip especially when the boat slows down and you can go up front for close ups and additional information. Proud of their wool industry. Pretty sure we saw a couple of whaling ships in port and there was whale on the menu at the restaurant. Not for me and an interesting juxtaposition as the tour company also offered whale watching. I suppose I should be worried if it offered catch your dinner trips. Food has been great, lovely fish and beer! Own foot bridge to the mainland The end of the line. A Morning in Bergen

 Hell0 from Bergen,  Our first morning here and we are off up the funicular. Lucky Neil spotted the ticket at the bottom or else I would've had us climbing to the first stop. We caught the funicular up and then meandered our way down. I prefer this order of activity.  Bergen - well part of it A rock with lichens - perfect for the Dunedin site  Proof it was 3 ks A bit windy Jammed in Yes we came down this on the advice of a friendly local Some dude I think it must be spring Norwegian Delta
