A day out - In Annecy France
Hello good people, I really wanted to call this blog getting Antsy in Annecy however that only works if the pronunciation is correct.
Annecy is a medieval town along the outlet of Lake Annecy, the Thiou river, well the medieval part is. It is touted as being one of the loveliest places in France, so we had to go look to test this out and not having been to all of France it was quite lovely. The day was middling with low cloud so we didn't get to see the surrounding peaks and nor did we get to see the lake as my travelling companion stated "seen one lake you've seen them all". So added to the travel acronyms of ABC (another bloody church), and ABS (another bloody Scandic - a hotel chain), we now have ABL (another bloody lake), although this may come back to haunt him. A quick peek at the lake turned our attention to the river which was crystal clear and really did set the scene. We enjoyed our first hamburger on the trip - not MacDonalds, with Black Cherry drink. We also seem to have delighted the owner, somehow, and no we didn't over tip in fact we didn't tip at all. In addition we grocery shopped as it is definitely cheaper in France, which could have led to a diplomatic incident as heading back we had to change trains in Geneva with a 5 minute window so off we charged down the exit ramp, rushing through - which on glancing back was Swiss customs, and onto our train as some bewildered customs officer took a step back as we thundered past. ( a wee bit of poetic license here). One final item before the photos, is that the journey back took a different route, no long journey through the mountain - I'm starting to feel like a dwarf out of Lord of the Rings with all these tunnels, which took us past ABL and along a river, very bucolic.
The photos to follow will tell the rest of the story.
