An addendum
or as we say, in the trade, a NTT to yesterday's entry. Firstly my travelling companion was taken for a local when helping a couple of older North American ladies with their bags off the train, no he didn't run away with them - not that type of local, as they replied merci and did so again even after he replied in English. Perhaps Kiwi comes across as something else - not English. It happened again at dinner last night - same place as the first night here, as who knew the supermarkets closed at 7pm. Or was it a cunning plan by the writer as there are only so many times one can eat pasta and salad for dinner. Meat here is quite expensive, including the horse meat, which like whale I an relucent to try. Well back to where I started, when arriving at said restaurant we asked for a table for two in broken French which, as I was rather tired was probably sentence comprising French, English and German, the waiter once we were seated asked us in English if we were Swiss!!!! Anyhow nice chap who follows a NZ athlete and it wasn't a rugby player.
The next event was that said travelling companion had cholera pie for lunch which was actually a leek and potato pir - just noting it here in case anything happens.
Finally and sort of continuing the food theme, there looked to have been a pepper spray incident at the start of our street. What caught our eye, or ears, was a rather loud commotion accompanied by lots of angry stomping around and spitting to seeing two people washing their eyes out - one with milk and another with coke. They do say that travel broadens the mind.
Being in one place for two weeks we have settled into a routine which is yoghurt and fruit for breakfast, coffee and cake for lunch and then something for tea with beer or wine so whatever I gain from my steps is countered by the beer and wine both of which have been very tasty.
