Dinant - and I do like a good citadel
Dear gentle travelers today we are off to Dinant where, apparently the first shot on Belgium soil in WWI occurred, as it stood in the way to Paris. However the citadel had seen much more than this and Dinant is also the home to the Leffe museum - which I am sure played a part in the 'where to go next' decision making by my fellow traveler and is coincidentally the one place he managed to navigate to successfully with Google Maps. It is also is a former church which was a good use of a church according to said fellow traveler. In addition we had a free tasting - a full glass, and a free gift. Worth the uphill walk. As well as this it must be famous for some sort of Jazz Festival or Eurovision event as there were Saxophone statues everywhere representing various countries, and even a Saxophone fountain. Dinant is on the river Meuse and as well as taking the cable car to the castle we also enjoyed a river cruise where we had the top deck all to ourselves, well it was raining but not cold. The train trip to Namur was rather ho hum but from there to Dinant we followed the river and it was picturesque and I do recommend a day in Dinant.
