Dear fellow travelers, today was, as they say in the shampoo trade, a wash, rinse and repeat day as we trained to Evian-Les-Bains (Evian) in France and then caught the ferry back to Lausanne. It is Mother's Day here and Louis as Sunday is officially over in NZ - you missed your chance, not that I'm holding that against you or anything. So lots of people out and about visiting their mothers - I guess. It is also a glorious day here and we can see the majestic mountains on the other (French) side of Lac Leman in their full glory. It's supposed to rain tomorrow so I am also enjoying the sunshine with a GnT. There is a market here in Lausanne down by the Lac, and a community party in Evian, by the Lac lookout that we stumbled onto after getting off the funicular.
Yes it was another funicular journey but this time in the original carriages where you get locked in and then let out by the driver, hard wooden seats, manual entry and exit points but it was gratis - so hey. Evian is also the source of, surprisingly or other wise, Evian spring water. There were people out and about sun bathing and generally enjoying the good life. Still haven't found any really interesting tat to buy, however there still is time. Again on the return to Switzerland a boat load of people, I suppose they could technically be boat people, funneled through customs - not that you would notice that it was customs- into Switzerland. The boat load contained two probable stowaways as I am not sure our pass covers the boat, but just doing what the ticket lady said and boarded without a ticket. Also the ticket collector wasn't bothered when Neill replied in English as he simply walked away without checking our pass. So given that we got on the boat in France I am saying that's one for the Rainbow Warrior and probably more than one rugby slight.
I also checked and yes getting Antsy in Annecy does work linguistically and literally. There is only one public toilet at the Annecy railway station, which is unisex. And from my 10 minutes in the queue getting more than slightly Antsy my observation is that men take as long or even longer than women in railway station public toilets!
Tomorrow we are off to Interlaken where I may finally fulfil my Kartoffelsalat quest.
So on to the photos
